I don't wish to be a spoilsport and stop all this fun but I'm pretty sure the MSA have a minimum wheelbase rule and something about engine/transmission/drivers seat being in front of the centreline of the wheelbase and you'll get some pretty interesting propshaft axles, go-on Roger we'll put a special SR in if you do it .

I think that the transfer box would be behind the rear axle on that thing... :D

The rule about the axle centreline doesn't apply to cross country, they put an exception in so forward controls could compete I believe.

I think you're main problem will be having to use a lawnmower engine as it's the only thing that will fit. Whilst it will be quite economical you'll have to set off on Thursday to get to a trial on Sunday :)

If I put the engine where the passenger seat should be and turn the transmission through 90deg and then chain drive the axles!

Been done before, Mr Milner used to run chain drive axles about 10>12 years ago in comp safari's , the other trick regarding turning engines has also been done using a FWD Rover 800 V6 turned though 90 deg and mid mounted running off to front and rear axle.

Got a few more hours on it today and made some progress (the wood is there to keep the weld-spatter off various precious things like seats, and the LPG tank...):

Although it looks a mess, it is quite usable even now... I think that it probably will look a little strange, but I'll be there... :)

Supporting framework would have been finished but for a 'measure once, cut twice' error, so I now need some more steel to finish off :(
I have still got two holes to be blocked at the sides of the glass (currently covered with cushionfloor and duct-tape), all other holes are blocked adequately for the trip. I would like to emphasize that the current state is temporary so that I can come to the lakes - most of what you see will be replaced with steel or perspex when I get the time...
