Discovery sunroof leak

the disco 2 has leaky sunroofs..


so does anybody have any tips about dropping the headlining down and fixing the leaky drain holes and seals before i spend sunday swearing at it and setting fire the thing in frustration?

any help would be appreciated.

Don't know anything about the Disco 2, so I don't know if this will be any use, but this is my experience with my RRC which had a problem with blocked drain tubes and rusted holes in the 'guttering' around the sunroof.

The drains cleared with gentle application of compressed air, but they did blow-back green slime all over me and the inside of the car - which doesn't matter in my case but might be of concern in a shiny clean motor..

As for the rusted holes, it would have been too much of a pain to weld, so I cleaned it all up as much as I could with wire brush and then put some 'Bondloc Steel Epoxy Stick' putty (from Maplins) over the hole and then painted it. The same putty has been holding the oil in my CBR600's motor for nearly a year now so I think it's pretty good stuff

Now my RRC has nice dry seats even after the heaviest rain - which is a bit of a contrast to the daily driver Disco..

i will arm myself with some chemical metal in case i find any rusty holes in the frame while i'm at it.

just looking at the rave cd for the disco2, there are sooooooo many clips and handles and switches and lights etc in the headlining....

All LR products sunroofs leak if you open them , simple solution take out the fuse so it can't be opened.

Indeed!
My RRC steel sunroof is designed to leak - which is why it has a little gutter all round inside and drain pipes at the corners

Another fact is that the electric ones always fail when open and it's starting to rain so you want to shut it, never when it's closed but sunny so you want to open it...

A search on Google shows 12,100 hits for D2 roof leak so I guess they are quite common. Gaffer tape seems to be a common solution if not the prettiest.

well it is fixed!

me and hadyn cracked on and got it all sorted,
one of the drain tubes had snapped where it joins the plastic cup.
anyway - took loads of pictures and notes and will bung it up on the new and improved www.muddy-tyres.net website in the next day or so.
