Another question
Following the weekends work fitting wheels and tyres, HD steering rods and cam belt I had several times to crawl underneath and notice at the mid point of the chassis the lowest bit is the hand brake that protrudes below the chassis, 2 questions actually
1. Is a disc brake conversion smaller diameter than the hub break, I ask this because if the diameter can be reduced a skid plate can be mounted flush against the chassis.
2. And can anyone send me a link to a skid plate for the centre section (that will cover the handbrake), so I can buy one or steal pointers on making my own.

If its not rattling its more than likely fallen off !

The chance of you hitting anything under there and doing any damage are pretty slim. Don't bother it's just extra weight and a mud trap.
HD Steering bars, dif guards and possibly a tank guard are the only things you should need. X-Brake centre disk conversion is good but also expensive for something that does the same job as a well maintained standard drum. If you are planning to spend all of your time over the sills in deep mud then fill your boots, if not just clean and grease the standard hand brake a couple of times a year and save your money.

5/4 of people admit that they’re bad with fractions.

Diff guards, bearings and rear disks
Can anyone recommend the following parts for my Defender, and a supplier if possible please.
Diff guards, the round ones seem cheap but I have seen them get pulled off when being recovered backwards, slider tpes any better ?
Wheel bearing brand ?
A recovery point that will bolt onto the back of my defender using at least 4 of the holes available, or any other suggestions for the back.
Disks and pads for the back, the disks definatly need replacing not sure if to go for a cheapo set or better quality ones.
Powder coating near Knaresborough / Harrogate as my ex employer wasnt interested in small jobs.
High lift jack adapter that allows you to use the round jack points

I got cheapo Paddocks discs on the front of mine and they are excellent.

Thanks Roger
Thanks Roger, I very tempted by the cheap dics and pads set as I reckoned the rear end didnt need to be as powerfull as the front (and I'm not one for driving fast), conformation they work well on the front of yours is reasurance ), will be ordering a set.

Also while out with the camera
Also to my surprise I am starting to like the bucket seats now I have got the hang of getting in and out of them, the only annoying bit is the seat belt catch is so far out of reach.
Suggestions on harnesses please, best type for the money and what do I have to be aware of in regard to safely anchoring them, some pics of the seats may help

Nah mate - you don't want those - what you need is a nice pair of pre-softened Range Rover seats like mine! Tell you what I'll do you a favour and swap you - can't say fairer than that now, can I?
Serious this time - see if you can have a go with full harness belts over rough ground first - I know that some people swear by them - me, I swear at them! When crossing rough ground (at trial speeds) I like to be able to sit up away from the squab and let the car move under me. I found that when strapped into bucked seats I seemed to get thrown around a lot. Obviously at speed a bucket & full harness would be much better, but for me the good old inertia reel is best.Zedman wrote:Suggestions on harnesses please, best type for the money and what do I have to be aware of in regard to safely anchoring them, some pics of the seats may help

I think you could be right on that one Roger
I think you could be right on that one Roger , thinking back I seem to remember the Jeep bouncing side to side and I stay upright avoiding a lot of the shaking, I also thought of another minus when I woke up this am, it would really restrict my ability to lean forward for a better view forwards when trying to spot how close I am to a cane and out of the side windows when driving on the road, full harness idea canned )

Wheel bearing brand ? timken
A recovery point that will bolt onto the back of my defender using at least 4 of the holes available, or any other suggestions for the back. Proper Nato hitch, not the one that can't swivel, have another one coming end of this month that you can have for little money
Disks and pads for the back, the disks definatly need replacing not sure if to go for a cheapo set or better quality ones. as long as it's not shitpart

High lift jack adapter that allows you to use the round jack points. your jack seems to be a cheapish chinese farm jack, as Dave is making up one, may be a good idea to make a few more, throw them on ebay and get your money back
