Fedima Extreme vs Insa Turbo Sahara

I need to get 2 new tyres and want to get some that match my existing Greenway Machos tread pattern.

Any ideas as to which might be better out of the Fedima or Insa Turbo? They are my road tyres too so don't want anything that is going to be too scary on road (the Machos seem OK so far for a comparison)

I should add that I use 235/85 16s.

I use Marix Puma in 265/75 which is pretty much the same diameter as 235/85 - certainly as close as you'll get with another brand 235/85 which will be different diameter to your Machos anyway.

Until I got a puncture in one of the Marix I was using a 235/85 Mach as a spare.

Hi Dave, that's the point really. The Fedima and Insa Turbo both come in a 235/85 which matches the Greenway Machos I got from you. I want to keep the same size all round.
There's also a Tecnic Amazon (made by Kingpin?) which has the same pattern and size but I remember someone saying that Kingpin were lousy/dangerous on road and lasted badly.

I was in the same position when I changed over.

There is a huge variation in the rolling diameter of tyres marked as 235/85, especially with remoulds. You can expect a 235/85 to come in at anything between 30 inch and 32 inch diameter depending on the make. With some makes you can even get that much variation between tyres from the same supplier.

If you need to change the tyres over in stages there's no real reason why you need to stick to 235/85 as long as the diameters are close enough for your centre diff to be happy with and you change them an axle at a time.

I'd avoid Kingpin, the Fedima and the Insas are supposed to be OK, although IIRC the Fedima were a bit pricey when I was looking to change last time which was one of the reasons I didn't go with them.

The Marix Puma 265/75 seem to be about £100 a tyre once you add shipping. I can get the Insa or Fedima 235/85 for about the same.

What would the pros/cons be for running the 265/75 instead of the 235/85? I'm concerned about turning circle and rubbing on the wings/wheel arches as my wheels have slightly more offset (or at least they sit slightly further out) than the white 8 spokes I got from you. I don't have a lift fitted so its running standard ride height.

I've not really noticed any difference, although the tyres are nominally 30 mm wider at the tread I think the tyre diameter makes more of a difference than the tread width.

The larger contact patch should, theoretically give more traction although, again, I have to say I've not noticed any real difference either way compared to the Machos when they were new. they're certainly no worse but I'd hesitate to say they were any better because you can never really do a like for like comparison.

Performance wise, isn't really much in it - same tread pattern and same size... although. I do like the side biter blocks on the fedima, probably do nothing - but they look nice!
On the road, just as noisy as the machos were.

Thanks Nick, How is the grip on road compared to the Machos? It'll be my runabout so I don't want anything more dodgy on road than the Machos are. They seem OK to me.

About the same. Not noticed any major difference between them.
