Dump Trouble
Dump Trouble
No, it's not what you think.
Having a bit of trouble with my 1 ton diesel dump truck that's developed an electrical starting problem. I suspect one of the controller/relay components is duff as I'm getting intermittent and varying symptoms occuring.
It's quite old and is just used offroad (it is actually a 4x4 so it qualifies for the forum!) so I was thinking of bypassing all the existing wiring and rigging up a harness to power the fuel pump when the ignition is on and then a feed direct to the starter solenoid when you turn & hold the key at the starting position. When the ignition is switched off it would cut power to the fuel pump and thus stop the engine.
Is this logic too simple? (Useful) comments appreciated.

Thanks for all the helpful tips (!!!). managed to sort the wiring so it started however had a small problem of not being able to stop it even when the ignition was off
Finally worked out that solenoid in the injector pump is open when there's no current to it ie. let's the fuel through, and has to be energised to close it. Rigged up a circuit with a push-button I had lying around and now sorted.
