Aluminium welding
Aluminium welding
does anyone on here know of someone that could do a small spot of ally welding in the wakefield or Barnsley area?
My mate has a very stupidly expensive bike and has managed to develop a crack in the frame. Its 'Alpha aluminium", which apparently is just extruded aluminium, and its got a hairline crack on a load bearing joint.
any help would be mucho appreciated.

Personally I wouldnt risk it.
How old is it? Take it back to manufacturer.
Cycle frames can be put under a lot of stress (especially if I'm riding it) and if it fails as a result of an attempted repair and pitches your mate under passing traffic, then not good at all.
Get a warranty claim on it or put it in the bin.

Alpha Aluminium will some form of trade mark, it is not a description of the alloy which usually goes from LM0 which is base aluminium upwards as other elements are added to improve workability, strength or machinability. Most engines and heads are LM25 which is a heat treatment alloy or LM226 which work hardens.
You must always repair aluminium with a like for like filler rod if you are to maintain its integrity and then heat treat it to harden/normalise it.
Short answer, don't do it!

5/4 of people admit that they’re bad with fractions.
